About founder and Lead Wellbeing Practitioner Gerry Mitchell:

Gerry Mitchell, BA (Hons) Social Sciences, is founder and Lead Wellbeing Practitioner at Livewell People + Place.

Gerry founded Livewell in 2023 and has extensive experience working in various health and wellbeing settings in the public, private and 3rd sector.

Much of Gerrys work has been in health improvement, supporting individuals, communities and workplaces by encouraging positive behavioural change towards the prevention and self management of health and wellbeing related challenges. He has spent 20 years working in community settings, providing operational and strategic support to health and social care organisations. He has been a frontline health wellbeing practitioner in primary care, addiction services, and in workforce health and wellbeing development. He has been both a volunteer mentor and a wellbeing practitioner, and has been at the forefront of the development of social prescribing approaches in Scotland. As a qualified researcher and Social Scientist, Gerry has delivered various research and evaluation work for both community and public sector organisations (relating to health inequalities).

Gerry is a trained NHS peer support practitioner. He is also trained in suicide prevention, mental health first aid and self-harm awareness. He has extensive training in childhood adversity (ACEs) and is trauma informed. He is a qualified fitness instructor, cycle trainer, health walk leader and football coach.
He has extensive knowledge of statutory and non-statutory resources that can support people to live and work well in their communities. He is a qualified trainer of Alcohol Brief Intervention, and is qualified to provide Seasons for Growth training (understanding Change, Loss and Grief). He is also a qualified trainer in Peer Support and the psychology of stress. Gerry also holds a Masters level Project Management qualification from Glasgow University.

Gerry has lived experience of supporting a chronic back condition of his own. For this – and to live well – he finds ways to keep fit, enjoys many sports, loves the outdoors and travel, practices cold water therapy, and tries to keep spiritually well. He also enjoys playing the guitar, signing and songwriting, and spending time with family and friends, along with good food and wine. Family is a big part of what keeps Gerry well and he squeezes in some time to support and coach all his son’s football teams.
He is passionate about supporting people and communities to live well and to flourish!
